Animal Farm

Animal farm was written by George Orwell and was published in 1945. It describes the betrayal and manipulation of democracy. The story begins with the animals in the "Manor Farm" being tired of Mr. Jones; their human master, who mistreats them by forcing them to work hard and not supplying enough food. One day Old Major, the oldest pig, calls all the animals to a secret meeting and tells them about his dream of revolution against the cruel Mr. Jones. A couple of days later Major dies, but the speech gives the more intelligent animals a new outlook on life. The pigs, which are considered the most intelligent animals, instruct the other ones. With help of some other intelligent pigs such as Snowball and Squealer they work out the theory of "Animalism." Some months later the rebellion started and the animals managed to overthrow Mr. Jones. After Mr. Jones was out of their lives, Napoleon started to lead the animals and enforced the animalism through seven commandments. By the end of the story, everything had changed. The government had become corrupt, a dictatorship, and the animals had become slaves to the pigs.

The animals had originally formed "Animalism" because in animalism there are no owners, no rich, and no

poor. Workers get a better life, and all animals are equal. They had also established laws called the seven commandments, which were intended to give basic rights to animals and protect them from domination. The goals of the government that were established said that everyone was equal, there would be more food and sleep for all, there was to be respect for all animals, and they would build a windmill to make life better and easier for all. The animals believed in the animalism and trusted their leader Napoleon. They did not hesitate to work long hours including Sunday, hoping their life would get better "one day". Nevertheless, the lives of ordinary animals worsen each day. They had to work more hours under the excuse of finishing the windmill. Some periods there was no rain and they had to work harder because the land was hard while with the same excuse the food ration declined. On the other hand, the pigs grew fatter and fatter. They told the other animals that they needed more food, for they are managing the whole farm. At the same time, pigs were hiding food from the ordinary animals and treating themselves better. The pigs took advantage of the fact that the other animals were not able to figure out whether they had more or less food compared to Mr. Jon
