The Power of Shamans

Shamans are believed to have the ability to come out of their bodies and travel to the spiritual world of their ancestors. In this world they are capable of utilizing the powers of the spirits to perform spells that affect the human world. The spiritual world is what controls life and its occurrences. The shaman derives his powers directly from the supernatural, such as gods, demons and ancestral spirits. However, the ability to obtain these powers are not possible by any person and this is why they are such important people in their village. Now the shaman in that village will use his power to find out who was behind the death of the child and respond in either an apologetic or vengeful manner. It depends on whether or not the death was justified.

On inquiry I asked my neighbor whether or not she believed that it was possible to cause someone harm in this fashion. She automatically exclaimed that no, it was not possible and that she had never seen someone die on the hand of "witchcraft or brujeria" as she put it. Mrs. Diaz began to inform me of the woman who lived on the fifth floor of her apartment building. She said that the woman practiced the art of bla
