Mists of Avalon VS Lady in Gil

People are often put into a position where another person's life rests in their hands. The fact that it is human nature to give a task all that you possess, if someone or something that you care about is at risk is effectively portrayed through the novels The Mists of Avalon and The lady in Gil. This is shown when the main characters of each novel are cautious rather than reckless, try harder when the odds are against them, and give the tasks at hand all that they possess to the point of both mental and physical exhaustion.

The main character Morgaine- heir to the Head Priestess of Avalon- effectively backs up the above point of being cautious rather than reckless throughout the entire novel The Mists of Avalon. One example of this is when Morgaine is told that she must endure a husband that beats her even though she knows that all that she has to do is hit him once and/or use her powers in order to make him stop. Morgaine instead takes her blows knowing that if she hits him and then leaves him, she will not be able to fulfill the task that is to come. A final proving fact from the novel The Mists of Avalon is when Morgaine hides the fact that she is a priestess and pretends to be a good Christian wife, knowing that revealing h

er beliefs will end her chances at saving her world. The main character Tigrallef- a scholar-in the novel The lady in Gil also effectively proves the above point through several demonstrations of caution over recklessness in order to save his countrymen. An example of this is when Tigrallef decides to send the members of "The Web" to gather all possible information on the whereabouts of the Lady of Gil, and then spends time analysing that information in order to create an organized search pattern, rather than randomly searching for her and charging into a volatile situation blindly. The fact that both main characters choose to use their intellectual prowess rather than their physical abilities, through several difficult situations that usually would have triggered a hasty and/or violent reaction, in order to make sure that they succeeded in their designated quests, shows that both characters go beyond their regular restraint on their naturally impulsive natures, because they know that if they do not that they will not succeed.

The main characters in each novel pressed on at all times. They gave their quests their best effort to the point of both mental and physical exhaustion in the hopes of saving their precious civilizations. This fact is proven when Morgaine almost dies in childbirth in The Mists of Avalon to produce the heir destined to save Avalon from fading away. It is also shown when Morgaine stays up for weeks on end trying to puzzle a way to get herself back into Avalon to regain her title so that she can l
