First Day at School
I didn't want to go, but I knew I had to. I couldn't stay in the past and I knew I had to move on towards the future. As soon as I got there I wanted to leave. I didn't belong and there was nowhere for me to go. I had to move forward and there was no turning back. I slowly lifted my head and looked straight ahead, taking my view away from the ground. As I took in a deep breath, I walked onto the campus. As soon as I looked up I saw many, many faces and I didn't recognize one of them. I was totally lost, in my own thoughts and on where I was. The campus looked huge and was so different then my old school. All I wanted was to go back to Red Bank and see all my old friends. However, I knew that wouldn't happen so I waited with my mother and sister for the first bell to ring. I quickly looked for my classroom, going down one corridor after the other. It didn't take to long since my classroom number was 13 and the rooms were in numerical order. I gave my mom and sister a hug good-
Since everyone was seated in groups, I scanned the classroom looking for a seat. I finally saw one, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to sit in that one. There was a girl with her foot on it and she looked like she wouldn't move it for anyone. I still needed a seat so I decided to go and ask if, maybe, someone was already sitting there. So I went over and asked, "Is anyone sitting here?" and to my surprise she joking said, "Just my foot, but I think I can move it." I was so relived that she wasn't as mean as she looked. My teacher, Mrs. McOwen, started to talk and class was quiet, except for a few whispers here and there. She introduced herself, told us why she taught the fifth grade, and then a few people asked her some questions. Then she went over class rules, what is to be in fifth grade, and so forth. The whole time I wasn't fully paying attention, I kept on repeating to myself, "Please don't make us go into pairs, please don't make us go into pairs." However, that didn't work.
