Colnialism and Imperialism
First, I'd like to say that there are tree types of colonies: colonies of settlement, Colonies of Exploitation and contested settlement colonies. In this Project I will hopefully try to explain all of them and go trough some history. When Citizens of the colonizing country moved to and took complete control in the new area, these type colonies cam to light. The term also means that the colonizing country culture replaces the original culture and new crops and animals dominate over the new land. Unfortunately (again), settlers often excluded the native inhabitants from their society or brutally killed them -just for existing in "their" colony. But the settlers also brought diseases and plagues to the poor natives which they couldn't handle (their immune system was only optimised for their own environment and they weren't ready for this). For an example of this, we can look overseas and a couple of hundred years ago, in America, were thousands of "Indians" died because of the white mans garbage. Colonies of Settlement is often located in the same climates as the European countries. Colonies of Exploitation were different from colonies of settlement. Colonies of
This huge area made Spain grow over 300% and it was the beginning of the biggest empire at it's time. The government gave out certain "encomiendias" -properties to the settlers so they could settle down there with their families. "new Spain was created. In New Spain the most important export article was silver. The colonizing country often inserted their own culture, customs and ways of life in their colonies. These new cultures soon replaced the natives'. This is an unfortunate matter also because much of the natives original, old culture is now lost only thanks to the imperialists brutal need for more goods and glory. An example: as the British empire expanded more and more, their colonies -in this case Australia- slowly got their culture rubbed out by the strange blue-eyed men. Australia was originally an island the Europeans used as storage for criminals and other law-offenders, but when their sentence was due, they (the greater part) settled down as law-abiding citizens. Through the years the poor native population in Australia The Portuguese colonies: while the Spaniards conquered New Spain, the poroguese people started settling in Brazil. The Portuguese, like the Spaniards, forced the poor inhabitants to work for them, but they had a very Different policy when they were conquering in the Indian ocean. There, their system consisted only in trade and war, rather than taking land and dominating it's people. 2. language and later the primary language. This has certainly affected our world as we know it: I mean what is more central today? (Also referring to the middle-east conflict). Colonization is as you've already read that strong nations dominated weaker ones to gain more land, economy, religion and so on..
