The Company of the Committed
The Company of the Committed tells five main ideas that Elton Trueblood thinks could have a great impact on Christians and society. There are many Christians who go to church and are continuous churchgoers, but only a portion of them actually goes to serve and worship God. "What is needed is a task force of committed men and women who truly care for God, for the church, and for other people." (pg. 1) Elton Trueblood's first idea for restoring the church is "the necessity of commitment." This statement tells about a Christian's commitment to God and to the church. Elton's Trueblood's fifth and final idea that could have a great impact on Christians and society, is "the criterion of validity." In Elton's point of view, love is the key factor of restoring the church. "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners" (Mark 2:17). This verse clearly shows God's love not only for the righteous, but for everyone, including the lost. We as Christians need to strive to follow Christ's footsteps. God is the perfect example of love and this is the root of restoring the church. "If God, as we believe, is truly revealed in the life of Christ, the most important thing to Him is the creation of centers of loving fellowship, which in turn infect the world."
