First on page one, under the section "Memory Development," the article opens with defining the processes of normal memory. Next the article explains where in the brain memory takes place. Under the section, "Infancy," the article talks about memory development in babies. Recollection is started as early as six or seven months, though baby memories disappear because of "infantile amnesia." Information is stored for 30 seconds or so in short term memory and must be transformed in order to store in long term memory. "Retrieval failure" occurs if information is forgotten. Also infantile amnesia is believed to occur because of encoding problems in the long term memory or encoding that can not be transformed by an adult mind (Alessi and Ballard 2001).
The next section, on page two, is "Childhood." This section talks about the cognition of children. One idea is from Piaget's research. Children think that things are either one way or the other. Also, childr

en think in ways that are "transductively (from one specific to the next)" (Alessi and Ballard 2001). This type of reasoning affects storing memory and causes problems with recollection. Next, children think that everything can think and feel. Memories from these feelings are freely reserved, but the influence maybe undesirable because on the inefficacy of children to take another person's outlook. All this takes place from age two through six in Piaget's preoperational stage. The next stage, the concrete operational stage (age seven), is the time when children perceive other's outlook and also preserve and reverse (Alessi and Ballard 2001).
