My View of the Broadcasting Industry
Finding a job in any field in this day of age has become very competitive. In the broadcasting industry the competition among applicants for a job has become increasingly tougher. The broadcasting field has become one of the most competitive and cut-throat businesses for college students to get into. It is easy to think when you are a child that you want to become the next Peter Jennings or Marv Albert. However, the reality of becoming one of the top flight broadcasters in this field is not as easy as many think. Many people who go into the field of broadcasting do not realize the amount of work, dedication, and most importantly luck it takes to make it in this business. The book that I have read is A Reporter's Life: Walter Cronkite. This is a biography of perhaps the greatest television broadcaster in the service of bringing news to America and the rest of the world. Walter Cronkite has had votes cast in his favor for most influential decision-makers in America and the most trusted man in America. In closing, this book has painted a picture of how important one person can become to America. Walter Cronkite is an American icon, he is one of the most trusted men in America. Watching the coverage of the airstrikes against Afghanistan on Sunday night, Dan Rather was at the helm, and all of sudden he was asking questions to none other than Walter Cronkite. This proves just how highly he is still regarded in this country and by CBS. He was brought in as a special correspondent. He is the most respected broadcaster in this country. He would not be at this point in his life without dedication, sacrifice, and luck. All are needed to make it in this industry. Another great misconception I had about this industry is how great luck plays into your success. By reading this book, I realize you only can become as successful as you want to be with a little luck.
