Sometimes it's unfortunate to be different. Then at other times being different makes youspecial, unique. I see being deaf as being as much of a blessing as a curse. You would have completely different out looks on life. I presume that it would be more difficult for the children who are born deaf, to not understand what's going on around them. But on a slightly higher note they don't know what there missing. Parents who give birth to deaf children, face a difficult choice. Do they decide to put them into a residential school or do they try to "main stream" them? Life is about over coming problems or at least learning to accept them. These distinctive families, though their road will have more bumps, will become stronger and hopefully more united in the end.

I once heard a saying "one persons trash is another persons treasure." In a twisted way

this is an example of that. To me it is unimaginable to not be able to hear what's going on

around me. There would be no alarm clock to wake you up, no radio to sing with in the shower,

no talking on the phone after a hard day of work. I would be completely cut off from what was

going on around me. I can not fathom being deaf and there for will not try. Man


will look down on them and treat them differently because they cant hear. ASL is a beautiful

simply different. As Helen Keller once said "Blindness cuts people off from things, Deafness

Society pressures people to, do the things they do, act the way they act, and dress the way

they dress. Also to the annoyance of many deaf people "to talk the way they talk" or even better

to go. Until the child is completely set in their ways they shouldn't be in a place where people
