Befor and After September 11

When my parents went to Seattle on vacation this summer, they noticed that airport security had changed. They went through two check points where luggage was searched, sharp items were confiscated, people that looked Middle Eastern were stopped, and a mother traveling alone with a baby was searched. The increase in security was due to the terrorist attacks against America. While the United States has always had airport security, national pride, and a thriving economy, these aspects can be contrasted before and after September 11, 2001.

Airport security has changed since 9/11/01. For example, before 9/11/01, check point officers were less invasive, there were no military soldiers on guard, and sharp objects like pocket knives, scissors, and nail files were allowed on airplanes. In contrast, after 9/11/01, check point officers are performi


ng extensive body searches at random, military soldiers are guarding the airport with automatic weapons, and no sharp objects whatsoever are allowed on airplanes, states Larry Joe, a National Guard reservist at the San Antonio International Airport. It is hard to understand why sharp objects like pocket knives, scissors, and nail files were allowed on airplanes before 9/11/01. If airport security were as strict as it is today, the attacks against America would have been prevented.

Even though security in airports is very strict right now, it is for the safety of Americans and to prevent any terrorist attack from happening again. One positive effect of the attack is the increase in national pride in the United States. However, the state of the economy has slowed and does not appear to be growing at this point in time.
