What is the concept of "a computerized model of reality (simulation)?" Is it a self-contained universe, replete with it's "laws of physics" and "logic" while bearing a resemblance to the real world. Is it a model of reality with direct and strong relationship to the world? These elements are important in the simulation world because there is no need for flight simulations in a world without airplanes. In the visually tantalizing movie, "The Matrix", the question of "What is the Matrix" lingers in the minds of the viewers throughout the entire movie.

To qualify something as reality, there must be two questions answered. Do the people know of the reality and influence it? The Matrix triggers a time sensation in people the same way that the Universe triggers a time sensation in us. In this sense the Matrix is real. But it fails because people do no know that it exists or any of its attributes, nor do the affect it irreversibly. They do not change the Matrix. Though the rebels does change the Matrix, in doing so, they make it real. It is their reality because they know it exists and they irreversibly change it.
