The world population has reached an alarming 6 billion people, and it is predicted that it will continue to even double in the next 50 years. Will there be enough food to feed billions of billions of people by that time? Or will Malthus's theory be proven true? Biotechnology says no. At least not with Genetically Modified Products . Many issues have arised, that Gm products harm the environment, and are not tested enough for human beings. But one cannot deny the fact Genetically modified foods have the potential to solve many of the world's problems, like reducing the reliance of pesticide and chemical use in food, give increased yield in crops , and relieve food problems such as starvation and diseases.

Who does like to eat food with tons of pesticides? Most people would agree that nobody does. Farmers however endure crop losses due to pests which have a great financial effect. To avoid it, farmers spend a lot of money on chemicals and pesticides wh


But what about the children? Is it just farmers that benefit from this? No. GM foods don't only have a high yield, but contain even more nutrients than before. An approximate 250 million children die from Vitamin A deficiency. Another 2.2 million children are killed because of their reduced resistance to diarrhea and other diseases. 20% of maternal deaths are due to iron deficiency . And many many more die of starvation. With the use of GM products, Vitamin A has been added to rice, and Iron is also another vitamin that might be added in the future. Vitamins are essential to a child's health, Vitamin A , for example, prevents blindness. Iron can help save millions of unborn children. Millions of millions of children will not only have food to eat, but healthy, nutritional food for their bodies.
