Role of Parents on Romantic relationships Among Teenagers

Role of Parents on Romantic Relationship among Adolescents towards the Opposite Sex

The ringing of my alarm clock woke me up; I reached for it and make it sop. Still in my bed, I began to stretch a bit. It's already late Saturday morning and the sunrays shone through the windows of my room. I lamely got off my bed and wet to the shower. When inside, I looked at my reflection in the mirror and tried to recall all the events that happened the previous evening.

That night's events were one of the happiest moments of my life. We just had our Juniors-Seniors Prom. You might say, so what about your JS Prom? It's just a Prom anyway. Yes, maybe for some it's just a simple Prom, but for me, it's the best Prom ever! In view of the fact that something happened that evening which I'll treasure forever. What I'm talking about is that, during the Prom my crush asked me to dance with him. Isn't that exciting? I can still remember his handsome face as he smartly walks towards me, and the chuckling of my friends as they teased me. He looks so great in his tux, his deep dimples show whenever he smiles, perfect teeth a.k.a. "pang-close-up" and those cute blue eyes made me feel like melting as he stare at me. As we danced, I considered myself

as the luckiest girl on earth that night for the reason that, all the other girls were staring at us. He is a real gentleman; h knows how to treat a girl the right way. And not only that, he also excels in our class. He's so good in Mathematics and he speaks perfect English. How I wish he would be my prince charming. I felt miserable as thee song ended, for it means that the dance would be over. He held my hand, led me to my chair and planted a kiss on my cheek before he went back to the other guys. I can still feel his lips touching my cheek. I may be hoping too high, but I think he also likes me.

I went out the room with a wide smile. Greeted everyone a good morning and ate my breakfast. Dad gave me a knowing look and asked me as to who sent the flowers. I aid it's just from a friend and assured him not to worry. I added that (I lied) my girlfriends and I will go out Sunday night at about 7:00 but would be home early. They both let me since they thought it would be an all girls event. Phew! I breathed a sigh of relief, the worst part is over. Now, I'll just have to choose my best outfit.

Sunday night came; I had dinner wit Neil and he confessed that he is planning to court me. I told him that it's just okay if he'd court me. After that night he constantly called me at home, texted me and sent me flowers, chocolates and things. Since I also like him, I answered him after several months of courtship. To make a long story short, I now have a relationship with my boyfriend but my parents don't know all about it.

A knock on the door of my bedroom wakes me up from my recollection state. When I opened the door, it was my mom. How come mom always arrives at the wrong time? She then informed me that someone sent me flowers and she handed me the bouquet of white roses. At least this time mom brought good news. My heart skipped a beat. Who would send me flowers? I said thanks to her, excused myself and closed the door without waiting for her reply. I hurriedly detached the card taped to the bouquet and read what's written in it. Before I can take a glance at the first word, mom unexpectedly entered the room without knocking and motioned me to come closer to her. I put down the bunch of flowers, and listen to whatever she has to say. "Anak, I just want to remind you of the rules that we had talked about with your Dad", she said. I just nodded without expression and eventually she left.

How come the parents never understand their children? Is falling in love a sin? What I men is, they should give their children a break. Having a boyfriend is a part of growing up. Even parents now passed in that stage of development. Being an adolescent myself, I admit most of the teenagers now easily engaged in some social problems, such as drug addiction, delinquency and pre-marital sex t name a few. Romantic relationships among adolescents are usually connected with pre-marital sex or teenage pregnancy even. Statistics show that the number of incidents of teenage pregnancy increased. Maybe this is one of the reasons why parents are afraid of letting their children be involved in relationships with opposite sex. But we can't generalize the concept. There are still some who knows their limitations, their rules or their boundaries. To this, I could say that how the parents perform their roles, the way they brought up their children; how they disciplined them (children); their presence inside the home with their brood; their guidance; and the usualness of family bonding, could affect the way they treat each of their kid
