The group I chose to observe and analyze was the International Students Association. I found the group by going to the student government office and getting a list of all the different clubs and organizations on campus. After spending a few days debating on what group I wanted to observe, I chose the International Students Association.. I knew my friend Raj that I worked with was a member of the group. He had been a authority figure the year before and I figured that he'd be a good person to ask about it, The next day in work, I talked to him about the project and he said that there would be no problem with me observing the group. He went and asked the president if there were any problems but he was also extremely nice and welcoming. After getting the final approval I made sure I was ready to observe their first meeting. The main reason I picked the ISA was because I felt I would get many different opinions from different kinds of people. The ISA is mostly foreign exchange students or students who were not born in America. The meetings and club is also open to anyone who wants to join. He talked about their budget and what some of their goals were for the year. During the presentation everyone seemed very interested and relaxed. There were people joking around and everyone would laugh. After the president was done talking about all of the years activities we took a break for some snacks. At this point everyone kind of broke into different little cliques. People flew to whoever they knew or were comfortable talking with. In a couple of instances I noticed people going up to others they didn't know and introducing themselves and having conversation. That was very interesting to me because normally people are afraid to branch out and just approach someone.
After the break the president wanted us to play a new game to get us to know each other better. In this game someone stands in the middle of the circle and says something they like or have accomplished. If you have also done whatever they say, you have to get out of your seat and find a new one. There is one less seat in the circle than people. The last person standing after everyone gets up has to be the person in the middle. Throughout the game Id say everyone got at least 2 turns in the middle. It was interesting to see some of the things people had in common. Everyone had a blast playing the game, including myself. There was a l
