A detailed Summary of Library

Our observation took place of all places at a Central library in a major metropolitan city, on a rainy Sunday afternoon with the possibility of a flash flood watch. Walking on the plaza of the library we could see a large mixture of people gather in front of the Library. They were white, black, old, young and even the homeless waiting for the library to open.

Entering the front door, which had two huge glass doors with warning signs, posted on them, stating no food, drinks or backpacks allow into the library. When you first walk into the library, you see a security guard posted at a desk sitting between two metal turn stalls. Straight ahead there were a middle size wood oblong desk that had a computer and a sign with information on it. When we arrive there were a white guy sitting behind the desk issuing out library cards. To the right of the information desk were two stands, one with Children videos and another with adult Videos. On the left hand side of the front enter way there were the Circulation desk. This desk was wood and about 48 inches wide and 60 or so inches long. The central figure in this department would have to be the tall stocky black man at the information desk. He was at that desk the whole time we were there. Several people came to him for assistant. Some needed to know how to log in to the Internet on the computers. Others need to know how to get time put on their copier machine cards. Many were asking for help in finding material in the library. This man has a truckload of patience. He was very knowledgeable and courteous, even to the transients.

The transients were the loners. The ones we saw were a bunch of plentiful creatures. Dirty with lice infested hair and ragged smelly clothes. The ones, who were not on the computers, were walking back and forth having a conversation with their selves. There were not just men; there were also women and children too.
