Nineteen Eighty-Four, a novel written by George Orwell in 1949, is a story about a future country where the population have no hope. People are controlled by a fascist government, they are constantly being watched and must conform to the government's doctrine. They aren't allowed to speak to each other on the street, they aren't allowed to bye anything that isn't necessary. This novel is also a critique of various political systems, such as Italian Fascist, Hitler's Nazi, and particularly Russian Stalinist. It has lots of symbols representing the situation of the world at that time. Next, I will compare the methods of government and social control used in the story and the ones used in Italy, Russia, and Germany.First symbol is Big Brother, an organization running a totalitarianism control of the people. It symbolizes the Russian, Italian, and Germanys governments. At the time the book was released, Russia was ruled by Joseph Stalin. Stalin ruled Russia as a dictator from 1922-1953. Italy, at the same time as Stalin government, was ruled by Benito Mussolini (1922-1943). He was the founder and leader of Italian Fascism. While Germany was ruled by Hitler with his Nazi party. In the story, the government put Big Brother pic
In conclusion, 1984 is a vision of George Orwell on how the world would be like if totalitarianism would be a majority in the world. It is a warning to people about the influence of Stalinist, and is also a warning against certain people who might want to disguise their true intentions. He did not want to see his vision that he would later write into 1984 come to life. The last thing Orwell wanted to see was a totalitarian society. Chocolate ration is another symbol in 1984. It symbolizes how the Russian, Italian, and German governments tried to reduce the amount of food available to eat per day, because they could not provide the citizens with plenty of food like they used to. This is due to the effect of World War II. The land that used to be a farm transformed into arms factory. All the money spent in the war produce nothing basically, just misery. In 1984, family was considered spies of secret police, since anyone in your family can turn you in to the police for anything you do in deviant of Big Brother's goal. This is true in case of Germany. In 1939, 82 percent of all Germans boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 18 were members of Nazi-controlled organizations. These organizations were designed to make these children a loyal party of Nazi, and so sometimes the children turned members of their family who were against the Nazi. Continuing from the discussion of the Secret Police, most of the people being captured just disappeared. Nothing on their past record can be found anymore, they are basically being annihilated. Room 101 is the place where Big Brother tortures the prisoners. Orwell draw this symbols due to the fact that all of totalitarianism government uses torture as a method in investigating their prisoners, but then, all governments in the world use one, even until now. Suspects in Russia were intimidated and tortured by brutal prosecutors, and condemn to death or imprisonment. Germany had concentration camps for all the Jews. While Italy had the squadristi killing all the people con
