Cigarettes

A detailed Summary of Cigarettes

Cigarette smoke created abstract images in the air that were immediately dissipated at the slightest breath or word. He flicked the smoked butt into a corner and looked at the interrogator. "Hey, I told you. I don't know nothin'." He was careful to accentuate the last word by waving his hand and attempting a fake Italian accent. He wasn't Italian, he had piercing blue eyes that seemed to see through you without any difficulty; he had dirty blonde hair that was slicked back, reminiscent of James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause".

He leaned back in his chair, and looked smoothly at the other man who looked as if he had been awake for days; looked like even standing was too much for him. The man who was wearing the typical TV cop outfit. Not the blue uniforms that street cops wear; he was wearing an expensive navy blue suit, with an awful striped tie. His hair was tousled, and his chin was covered with stubble. He had a strange, dangerous gleam in his eyes. He suppressed the look in his eyes and spoke soothingly.

"Come on, Gabe. Can I call you that? I think it's good to keep things personal." The man straightened his tie and began again. "You can call me Rick if you want, everyone else does." His voice changed from th

e casual tone he'd been using to a voice that was dead serious. Pun intended. "You killed her didn't you? You slit her throat and then left her lying in an alley." Gabe glanced casually at the man who, quite obviously had no idea how to interrogate someone, who was doing this for personal reasons and smirked.

Rick, eyes glazed, paid no attention to the man he was injuring. He simply let his hands move upwards, to Gabe's neck. He squeezed. Gabe freed his leg and kicked Rick in the stomach. Rick winced and loosened his grip for an instant. An instant was all Gabe needed to get free. He stumbled to his feet and kicked Rick again.

"Bro, I have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Maybe you should take the little gumshoes outside, see if they can find someone who actually committed a crime. Tell them to bring their cute little magnifying glasses, cause they seem to be pretty blind without them. Hey, maybe if you stopped wearing cheap rip-off suits and start wearing those overcoats, the murderer won't recognize you and tell you that he did it." The so-called "bro" turned away to look at the mirror and gesticulated to the men looking into the closed room, "All I'm getting is lame sarcasm from this lame brat." He glanced at the man who was still sitting lazily in the chair, opened the door, went outside and left Gabe all by himself. He was back in less than a minute. He seemed to have gained energy from having left the room.
