Poem Summarizations
The Ride by Richard Wilbur, uses poetical devices such as rhyming. The first line and third line rhyme, while the second and fourth line rhyme with each other in each stanza. Also the writer uses many of the same vowel sounds such as "seemed" and dreamed", and "thanks" and "flanks". My first impression of this poem was to think about horses, but more modernly cars. While the title, called The Ride, is intriguing enough, he talks about steering and fears which can be related to cars. I look at this poem like he is dreaming of riding his horse but then he wakes up. So the picture I chose was this fancy sports car as a way to relate to his poem only in my sense I would be dreaming of cars like this. I also related horse power in a car's engine, to this poem.A Poem for the End of the Century by Czeslaw Milosz, does not use a rhyming scheme. The poem uses anastrophe for example: "Who without any need". This poem is in free verse. When I first read this poem, it made me think of just the world in general. Reflections on how the world works, everything wrong with the world, why I'm doing this assignment, and just how everything in life is chaos. The pictures I chose were pictures of g
The Trout by John Montague, is free verse and does not rhyme. The poem also uses allusion and Anastrophe. When I read this poem, it made me think of fish, seeing as trout is a type of fish, I thought of how many different species there were in the water. There is a great number of them. To represent the trout, I used pictures of people fishing and the trout by itself. Personal War by Laurie Picotte, uses the Heroic Couplet rhyming scheme while also rhyming vowel sounds throughout the poem. I took her as though in a personal war, only you can win the war and no one else. While with little help from other people, you can succeed. The pictures I chose to represent this battle was of sadness and a cartoon battle scene. The Great Sea Cucumber by Gene Baro, is written in free verse and does not rhyme. It uses allusion, and Metonymy. I though of the food cucumbers when I saw the title, but after reading through the whole poem, I discovered that the poem was indeed about sea cucumbers. I thought by the title, it would be a humorous food joke but it was describing the sea cucumbers. My pictures to represent this included regular cucumbers, the sea, and sea cucumbers.
