The Hobbit
by J.R.R. Tolkein This story takes place in what seems to be modern times. The story starts out in a land called The Shire, but the characters move to different places throughout the whole story. This book made me wish that I lived during this time and that I lived where it takes place. I say this because I am an adventurous person, and I would get a real thrill out of the danger and cautiousness needed to fulfill the main mission in the book. This book made me realize that people can always change, no matter the age. For instance, Bilbo appeared, at first, to be the kind of person who likes to stick to his origins, likes peaceful company, and the quietness of his home. Even though I have mentioned this a few times before, I think that a person could learn that people aren't always what they seem at first. Bilbo wouldn't think twice about an adventure, but he eventually loved the quests and dangers of his life. People could also learn that you never know what something is until you try it. I would say this because he is the eldest of the dwarves, as I am eldest of my brothers and sisters. He is also somewhat bossy, as I tend to be. He is the wisest of his group, is very responsible, and he stays devoted to his tasks. The character that I disliked the most would have to be Gollum. He was the one that had possessed the ring before Bilbo. The reasons why I don't like him is because he is selfish. He is constantly searching for the ring because of his greedines
