1984 English essay

A detailed Summary of 1984 English essay

The totalitarian society displayed in George Orwells 1984 could never be inserted into the society we live in today. One of the main reasons this could never happen would be simply because we've been around democracy too long and countries no longer need dictators to stabilize themselves. We as people have also come along way being stronger and smarter as a group, certain atrocities we wouldn't allow, would cause us to rebel. The other major powers such as the US, Britain, and all of NATO might have something to say if somebody tried to set up a totalitarian government in Canada. So people who read George Orwell's 1984 don't have to worry about that ever happening. I believe that if someone tried to start a totalitarian society today he would fail. Mostly because people know too much about democracy. We have all grown up in democracy, everyone that grew up before it, people that witnessed it, is either dead or aging beautifully. The young people are too used to being able to have their own ideas and thoughts and are far too idealistic for a totalitarian society. Unlike 1984 where George Orwell describes the Parson's children 'Both of them were dressed in the blue shorts, grey shirts, and red neckerchiefs which were the u

we would storm the government and crush it probably without even using weapons. Unlike 1984 where the army they had was huge and is probably the reason that they got control of the country in the first place. Like 1984 'if there was hope it lay in the proles' (31), this same saying would be true to us the proles being the working class in our society. If we didn't do anything and just sat back and watched then yes a totalitarian society might succeed in establishing itself, but if we joined together, just as if the proles in 1984 had have, we could overthrow anything. We wouldn't stand by and allow anything we didn't believe in happen. We would link together and defeat that evil which is totalitarianism. Lastly I believe that the other major powers of the world, such as NATO wouldn't allow some of the atrocities that come with a totalitarian system of government. We now have International Police for crimes against humans. NATO would find out about the torture, beatings, and overall crimes against humanity. They would put a stop to it even if that meant that they would declare war, then all the major powers such as the US, and Britain would be attacking and you know who would win that. Of course they can not stop a totalitarian government from starting up, but they could help to weaken it by not allowing them to use all their methods for maintaining power with a totalitarian government. Unlike in the book 1984, where all the other countries Eastasia and Eurasia all had the same system of government and were at war with each other so there was nobody to step in and help nor did anybody care. The USA would probably want to show that he polices the world and wouldn't let those un-thinkable things ha
