A colonial desire to separate church and state was a one of the religious reasons that made the colonists mad. (1, p.27) Colonists believed that politics and religion should not be mixed together. The economy also had it's share on the road to the American Revolution. Take for instance the Stamp act of 1765 which made visible taxes on goods and services. (6, p.49) This made the colonists angry because they were all of a sudden paying tax for things that have never been taxed before, like a deck of cards. If you were walking around on the street with an unstapmed deck of cards, you would be sent to jail. In retalliation to the stampact, shopkeeps and store owners began to ignore it by not charging the tax. The band of people not obeying the new law created the Sons of Liberty which was an underground group that got together to stand up as one and say, "We're not gonna pay your stupid tax." Obviously not in the wording of course. The Stamp Act and the rise of the Sons of Liberty lead to a boycott on all British goods. (7, p.49) The boycott of all British goods was, a boycott on all British goods. Colonists did not want to pay for tax on things that were never taxed before. It's just plain ludacris if you ask me. This showed the British that the colonist weren't going to put up with unneeded and idiotic taxes.
