In the modern-day society, the media, advertising and entertainment industry has become a powerful means that influence how consumers view themselves and the world around them. With murders, assaults, and rapes being frequently telecasted, and with serial killers and mass murders constantly making headlines, it seems logical to assume that mass media is responsible for endorsing violence in the world today.
Violent television shows, movies, video games and toys promote aggression and destructive behavior. As such entertainment is profitable, the manufacturers target it at those, who are likely to imitate it, and thus promote violence. Its most lethal impact therefore, falls on children and the teenagers.

News media is another major medium through which violence is exposed all over the world. Due to its quick reporting of any violent happenings, news media have mass appeal. If there is a mass violence we can expect it to appear on the headlines of most newspapers or magazines. In order to gain more popularity news media sometimes exaggerate the actual news. Thus, they become responsible in triggering many racial conflicts that are taking place in the world today. In India for example, report of a simple religious conflict, with graphic pictures, led to more violence. It led people all over the land and abroad to assume that there was all-out religious civil war. This assumption also led usually peaceful villagers to attack people of the other religion.
