A detailed Summary of 4th of July

Today we are gathered to celebrate not only America's birthday but also the birthday of this community of Cambellsville, Iowa. This community is just three years old, a baby when compared America. This community has been a beacon of freedom since its beginning. Not only are the citizens of this good community color blind, but they also believe, as our early statesmen did that everyone was created equal.

Most of you good citizens know me as Jonah Smith, but my given name is really Abiona Sabra. Africa was my birthplace but America is my home. Today we all stand here free men. Not too long ago this was not the case, you see there was no freedom for me in the beginning because I was a slave. Today I am a teacher having learned this trade at the hands of my former master's children's tutor. I was one of the fortunate slaves living on a plantation. My duties were confined to the plantation household and this gave me access to a better life that most other slaves. It was in this household that I learned the history of America.

Though each colony had its own elected representatives, these men held no power. The power was in the hands of a governor who was appointed by the King of England. This was another of the causes of the Revolutionary War. One leader of the American Revolution said that the crisis that led to the Revolution happened in 1761. That year during the French and Indian war a court in Massachusetts decided that British Officials could search any premises he chose and could seize any contraband. It was a measure to help authorities fight smuggling. But American saw this differently because the officials could use this as a weapon against anyone who stood in their way, whether they were deemed smugglers or not. John Adams declared that this was when the notion of independence was born (Encarta).

Let us first look at the journey of America. The thirteen colonies that became America were originally colonies of England. By the time the American Revolution took place, the citizens of these colonies were beginning to get tired of England's rule. Rebellion and discontent were abundant. One of the reasons the colonies started rebelling against England was the taxation issue. The colonies debated England's legal power to tax them.

The struggle for the independence of the slaves as mentioned earlier was much like that of America. Not only was it a struggle for independence it also had an economic effect on the country. Like the colonies another too owned me. For one to fully understand this they must look at slavery in America as a whole. The whole slave system in America was a unique one. Sometimes slaves were treated cruelly and sometimes they were treated kindly. Slaves were often used as a way of displaying a person's wealth. In other societies a slave was at the bottom of a social ladder, these slaves were sometimes aliens and sometimes came from the same nation. America was the first nation to use people from only one race. The development of slavery in America resulted from the working economic forces and not from the climate or geographic conditions. When the first Africans reached Virginia in 1619, the colony was comprised of small plantations dependent on free white labor. While some historians thank that these immigrants were held in slavery, most think they were really indentured servants. Word reached England of unlivable working conditions and this ended the indentured role quickly. There was a passage of laws to protect white labor and it was these very laws that elevated slave trade in America. Though slavery had been always apart of the Colonies it really became popular after the American Revolution. America was comprised of a lot of rural areas. This land consisted of large plantations. These plantations held a great deal of America's potential for economic growth after the war. It was during this time that Eli Whitney developed the cotton gin and growing cotton in large quantitie
