It is Difficult to Feel Sympathy for either Romeo or Juliet

A detailed Summary of It is Difficult to Feel Sympathy for either Romeo or Juliet

Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' is one of the best known tragedies in the world. When all the facts are analysed the only conclusion that can be drawn is that it was about two infatuated teen-agers who did not know what they were doing. It is therefore hard to feel sympathy for either Romeo or Juliet. They were both wrong and did not know what they were getting them selves into. It is difficult to feel sympathy because all of the events were repercussions of stupid actions under-taken by the pair. If they were a little wiser and more mature then the event surely would not have taken place. Due to the lack of intelligence the death of the couple was inevitable. I will discuss why it was an impossible situation and why there are no sympathetic emotions towards either Romeo or Juliet.

After studying the play I have come to a conclusion that if both Romeo and Juliet were smarter they would have realised that it was nothing more than an infatuation. They were both only teen-agers and therefore

Not once did the pair consult or speak to their parents about their 'love' towards each other. They both just assumed that their parents would disapprove of their relationship. In actual fact their parents might have been a lot more understanding, towards the situation. I think that the parents were a lot smarter and deserved a lot more credibility then they were given. They could obviously see that it was merely puppy love and that sooner or later both Romeo and Juliet would out grow this phase and move on with a more serious and stable relationship. I believe that if their parents were directly consulted, instead of game play, and informed of their 'affection' for each other that they might have been understanding and maybe not supportive at first. But once they were convinced they would have supported them. This however was not done. Romeo and Juliet went behind their parent's backs and expected them to support or just live with their decisions even though they were not informed.
