A detailed Summary of Euthanasia


His parents, children and grandchildren stood around his motionless body as his eyes popped open. His lifeless eyes gazed blankly around the room. Everyone smiled and tears of joy and hope fell. Except for Lisa. She was off in the corner with her own tears, but these were tears of sorrow and compassion. How could she smile? He did not open his own eyes. The machines did that for him. He was so helpless that the machines did everything for him. They breathed for him, thought for him, and lived for him. He couldn't move, he couldn't see and he was completely unaware that there was anyone in the room with him. Being forced to live with this suffering is pointless. Anyone who would not let someone be excused from this pain is "heartless and inhuman". Euthanasia is the practice of "Mercy killing". This is ending a person's life in order to release this person from an incurable disease, intolerable suffering or undignified death.

There are two different kinds of euthanasia. Active euthanasia is painlessly ending an individual's life for merciful reasons. A doctor could administer a lethal dose of medication to end a person's life. Passive euthanasia is a lack of an action to prevent death. A doctor could not use an a


rtificial respirator to keep a patient a live. Euthanasia should always be an option for those people who are suffering, whether it is voluntary (the patient asks to die) or nonvoluntary (the patient is not mentally competent to request to die).

I feel that the families should be able to decide to end their loved one's life. If a person is living "like a vegetable" relief should be administered even if the person can not speak for themselves. While the family suffers emotionally from watching their loved one's slow and agonizing death, they also suffer with bills that have to be paid while the patient stays in the hospital.
