CCP defeated by the GMD
In 1949, the Guomindang (Nationalist) party in China was defeated by the Communists. There were several diverse reasons for this. One of the main reasons that they lost was the lack of the lack of support of the peasants. Another major reason was the embezzlement of the money and foreign aid which mainly came from the US. Also, Communists controlled more land in China and therefore has more area of influence.The GMD lost the support of their peasants because of the conditions they were forced to live with and they way they were treated in general by the government. The Guomindang was treated with no respect as if they were animals. When GMD peasants and soldiers were sent to war, in the civil war of 1946-1849 for example, even though they were very well equipped and trained, their feet and hands were tied with ropes so that they wouldn’t consider or be able to run away and would be forced to risk their lives for the cause that they might not even have wanted to support anymore. These were un-humanly conditions to live with. Above all this, the GMD’s main support came from the landlords who naturally wanted to keep their land.
