HIV
The number one killer of persons between the ages of 25-44 is Aids. About 8500 hundred people daily are becoming infected with Aids. HIV was first identified in the United Stated in 1981 following an investigation of five Los Angeles men who developed unusual infections. By 1982 at least 100 cases had been reported and that's when it was defined as Aids. African Americans and Hispanics are at greater risk at getting this disease then Americans. Statistics show that HIV infection rates are rapidly increasing in India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean because they do not have the technology that we have here in the United States. At least 270,000 Americans have died of Aids up to the year 1999. ( Green,C, Medical-Surgical Nursing)The Genus of Aids is Lentivirus and the species is Cryptosporidium. AIDS or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome is a number of symptoms. It is a disease caused by a virus, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV primarily infects and destroys CD4 expressing T cells, including helper T cells and macrophages, Since T cells play a vital role in directing the body's immune response, the immune system is disabled, leaving the person vulnerable to various infections and diseases. As AIDS prog
Right now there are being many attempts made to find a cure for Aids. At least 16 experimental AIDS vaccines were tested in 1993. However, with the comprehensive testing needed before a vaccine can be launched on the market, none are expected to be ready until sometime in the next century. People are still trying to come up with an effective vaccine, but a lot of people have given up on this because there is no way to determine whether an inactive virus would remain inactive or whether a weakened strain of HIV still had the potential to overwhelm the human immune system. So you could infect someone with this disease while trying to prevent it so it is very risky. People are also trying to somehow alter the genetic structure of the infected cells so that they are unable to produce the proteins necessary for the survival of the virus. This could result in the virus being totally or partially unable to reproduce or produce defective and harmless copies of itself. In order to get cells to alter their function requires deliberately inserting the necessary genetic material into the cells. This is currently achieved by using experimental vectors, harmless viruses that can convey and insert the desired genes into the chromosomes of the cell. These techniques are still in their early stages of development and offer limited success. They do not always seek out the right target cells and often insert the genetic material into parts of the chromosomes that have no effect against HIV activity. Another approach being investigated is the possibility of linking HIV to another virus, one that the body is able to identify quicker and easier. This viral hybrid could then be introduced into target cells. The supposition is that the immune system will respond both faster and more effectively, destroying these cells and the viruses inside them. I think that these treatments fit in with Gods commands because he commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves in Deuteronomy 10:4. And I know that if I were infected with Aids I would want people to try there hardest to try to find a cure. Also in John 3:16 it shows how much God loves us and we should have the same love for other people and I t
