A detailed Summary of The language of Performing arts A Commentary on the Work

This term has been our introduction to the subject of performing arts in which we have been studying the three performance arts Dance Drama and Music, During this time I have participated in devising four practical performances each lasting approximately 3 minutes each including a drama piece based on a photo on a 1950s cafe in Paris, a dance piece based on a poem A Wise Triangle and a music piece including the chords Am Dm and Em. Finally we composed a combined piece to finish the project involving all three art forms we called our integrated piece Greed.

We began by brainstorming our ideas for the poem we chose which was A Wise Triangle we came up with the idea of jagged movement to symbolise triangles and angles and lines. Because our group was of different abilities we had to compose this dance so that everyone appeared to have the Same skill level and everyone tried equally hard, we did this by splitting our group of six in to three pairs of equal build and ability, we came up with the idea to effectively take it in turns to dance each pair standing with their body in a position making a triangle somewhere they would wait while the previous pair would do their part and the remaini

When we came to create our music piece we were given some guidelines we had to incorporate into our piece our rules we use were that we had to use the chords Am Dm and Em. We started by listening to the chords played on the piano and improvising melodies along with them to see what fitted and what did not. Eventually, most of our initial ideas were unsuccessful it took us a while to write lyrics to use in the performance, we panicked for a while when we lacked a start for the lyrics but we worked on the lyrics and each person on instruments worked out what they would be playing: Drums, guitar, Base, and keyboard/piano. We based the melody for the verse on the chord progressions. We then composed some harmonies, which we thought were necessary to enhance the texture of the piece by improving them while one

In the end I think our piece was good but the ending was rushed to come up with. We need to learn how to condense our work though include all the elements of all our art forms, and we could have paid more attention to the music and dance.

The rest of the dance was displaying the rest of the poem using groups, and the whole group toward the end. The further in to the dance/poem we got, the more the group moved together.

I think overall that our dance went well, we all decided that in any other practical we should stick to rehearsal schedules and start concentrating on the piece of work from beginning to end. It seems we have a long time to do it so that it is not too rushed and as long as we follow the targets we set ourselves we should achieve our goals.

A third couple walked through these two separate triangles to finish the intro each performing the splits. This was to symbolize the beginning of the poem.

The first thing to do was to come up with some ideas for the tableaux. We brainstormed each status and came up with some good images, which we could make to display the broad difference between people's status in these categories. The idea was to make a freeze frame which would give an idea to the audience of what we are trying to portray then to put in some dialogue for a deeper look into the characters feeling of their situation. We would then involve some sort of dance to get us in position for the next tableaux.

The physicality on stage along with the proxemics were our strong points. Our posture on stage was relaxed in general showing our attitude though it did vary between characters, such as the bubbly bar maid all ways stood tall with her chest out smiling, whereas the street sweeper always was slouched with his head down because he's upset that the bar maid doesn't like him. Our facial expressions were also very important in expressing one's feelings and emotions.

As I have said, translations between tableaux were made through dance we did these movements in pairs most often the ones we had, had a relationship within the previous tableaux we so this is created many images of unison we incorporated we included different types of movement such as turning, travel, stillness. Once we had thought of some moves to perfor
