Marijuana

In today's society, America is faced with a major problem. This problem happens to be the topic on the legalization of marijuana. The legalization of marijuana deserves to be looked at as a topic of legalization. Different options need to be considered in legalizing weed. America should take certain actions in a step towards legalizing weed, and concentrate on keeping the harder drugs, such as heroin, crack, and cocaine illegal. The legalization of weed is an option that has not been given much of a chance to make it to our court and decide if it should be legal. Although many people feel that legalizing marijuana would increase the amount of use, marijuana should be legalized because it would reduce the great amounts of money spent on enforcement and it will increase our country's revenue. Legalizing "weed" will greatly increase America's way of life. By legalizing marijuana it will highly add to our economy and to our community. The result would be an increase in the government's revenue and our communities will witness a decrease in crime rates, as well as helping those who are in need for marijuana more medical purposes.

Numerous toxins and poisons are poured into cigarettes to allow th

Smoking weed is a persons choice, and when the government tries to make tat illegal they are taking that choice away. Through the Bill of Rights we the American people are given the right to do as we please. So if we choose to smoke wed they shouldn't hold that against us. In such countries were marijuana is legal, such as the Netherlands, they have seen less crimes involving drugs. With the legalization of weed a decrease in deaths related to drug deals would occur, and also the price of weed would lessen because bigger businesses could product this at a cheaper price. In Gore Vidal's Drugs he states "Simply make all drugs available and sell them at a cost, label each drug with a precise description of what affects good or bad the drug will have on the taker." Vidal's idea of legalizing all drugs is a bit farfetched, but legalizing weed with a description is ideal. With something similar to the Surgeons General warning found on cigarettes would be a possible idea for weed. Since the legalzation of weed, the Netherlands has seen a decrease in crime rates since 1976. "The Netherlands, which decriminalized the possession and retail sale of marijuana in 1976, ranks lower than the United States in the percentage of people who have ever used marijuana in every age category, has a higher age of initiation among those that do try marijuana, and fewer adolescents in the Netherlands than in the United States use other drugs." Which stirs up the topic of more teens smoking weed if it is made legal, but the reason why teens use it is because of the risk and rush. It boosts their adrenalin by using it. Now if it were legal this would decrease as it did in the Netherlands.

With the legalization of weed, crime rates will decrease, and the majority of the people in jail would be free. Most people are in jail due to some-related drug charge, or violent crimes convicts commit to get money to meet their needs for these drugs. The Netherlands, where marijuana is legal, has seen a dramatic decrease in crime rates, since legalizing "weed." Though with weed being legal certain restrictions apply. Certain restrictions like, those seen in Dutch coffee houses, were you can legally smoke and sell weed. You are also not allowed to advertise weed, this is true with cigarettes to, to a certain degree. The purchasers must be of eighteen years of age in order to purchase mariju
