Religion and its Thinking

Religion has been an important concept of every culture. Throughout history, religion has been connected in school studies. In the 20th century the United States that most of the religious teaching and ritual been taken out of public schools. In Religion: Rethinking a National Dilemma and American Education, by Warren A. Nord, Warren questions how student can graduate without hardly any religious teaching involved. Warren A. Nord is a philosopher of religion at the University of North Carolina and the director of that university's Program in the Humanities and Human Values. Also, Mr. Nord's novel investigates historical, philosophical, constitutional, and pedagogical issues relating to religion and education.

In the beginning, Mr. Nord speaks about religion and science. He lectors on how the world is made up of liberal and conservative religion, secular modernity, and postmodernism. Basically Mr. Nord intertwines all for concepts together and tells the reader how they make up people's belief and knowledge. For instance, science is fact but people who are scientist do not just believe only in scientific facts they can be more reli


In the next two sections, Mr. Nord lectors on the little more history, constitution, and books that relate to religious freedom that school today try to eliminate religious teaching in school. Gradually, the church begins to separate from the states and scientific revolution begins to advance drawing many away from religion. For instance, many of the state after the constitution was accomplished abolish establish religions. The first and fourteenth amendments protected the people from congress and states. Mr. Nord goes threw constitutional law relating to religion. For instance, he explains some cases such as Wisconsin v. Yoder where the supreme court rule that the Amish child because of some of the offensive school teaching that effects the Amish children do to have to go to school. It is because of the free exercise clause. Next, Warren justifies that most of the books that are used in school blend with a little religion. For example, American history contains lots of religious teaching in the book such as the Native American culture. Even science books have reference to religion in some way such as origin of man. This idea leads back to a religious answer. Mr. Nord gives a reason why all the books today contain few religious concepts because they are way too controversial.

Finally in the last half of the book, Mr. Nord brings up his arguments. In these up coming chapters Warren gives clear cut reason and examples to why textbook related religion are not neutral, why religion should be kept out of schools, and some maybe solution to the problem. For instance, Mr. Nord explains how elementary even scholar studying the religion related text could be harmful because what they learn they are likely to follow. Some of his solution is to take religion all the way out not mention it. Another is to keep the writer writing on the subject but be neutral about the religion.
