Lord Of the Flies
Norman Cousins states "Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live." As people live and are exposed to the hardships in life things inside them that they thought were right now die. In of Lord of the Flies by William Golding the immature boys are exposed to life without grownups so the sense of stability and wrongdoing dies inside of them because if they have no influence from the grownups of what is right and wrong they won't know the difference. In Lord of the Flies Roger is on the verge of losing his mind from the beginning but Simon stays in touch with the parental influence keeping him grounded and sane. Ralph experiences evil through the boy's influence and gives in to the temptation of the easy life of savagery forgetting why he wants to go home. Roger is free to do whatever he wants whenever he wants. He takes full advantage of the opportunity of having no rules. For example, Roger throws stones at one of the boys just missing. "Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law." Don't give in to the many temptations in life that you will regret. Stay strong and don't be afraid to stand out in life. Like Simon we need to worry about the good of ourselves before we worry about others. The moral of this story is cheaters never prosper. Exposing yourself to the challenges of life is what is essential to grow in life but it is hard because you have to know what is right from wrong. If you give into the temptations of easier life nothing good will come from it and your life itself will die inside you. is no one to keep him in line it enables him to lose civility. Roger expresses insanity at its climax because once it comes out no one will ever be able to stop him. He is a perfect example of what is going to happen to all the other boys on the island. In addition, in a savage frenzy, the hunters kill a mother pig and Roger forcefully drives a spear into it. Roger represents brutality and bloodlust at the extreme in this part of the book because he is at the climax where nothing can stop him from committing horrible acts. While committing this act of savagery he seems jubilant and powerful, chanting and dancing like he did something right. This savage act makes Roger feel so good because this is what was building inside of him for so long and now he has the perfect chance to let it all out. Furthermore, Roger shoves a massive rock down the cliff of the mountain killing piggy and shattering the conch. It is disgusting how Roger could commit such an unthinkable act and not even posses the feeling inside him to tell that it was wrong. Roger is like an addicted alcoholic or drug user today. Alcohol and drugs are appealing to people because it makes them feel better; it is an easy way to let go of their problems. Hurting people appeals to Roger because it is an easy way to fo
