The enlightenment of the 17th - 18th centuries as expressed by the writers of that era represented a new political, social, and economic philosophy that challenged the status quo as it existed at that time. Up to this time period, the official ruler of the land was the king, also known as the monarch. In a totalitarianism government, the people have no say it what goes. "When the king says jump, you say how high." Yet it is in this time frame that certain individuals begin to voice their opinion in making a more logical government, one where when the king said, "jump, you ask why?".
One of the problems of this time period was that of absolutism, which means all areas of government would reside in a single group of persons. In this form of government, the people had no voice in w
hat decisions went on throughout the country. Then a new group of people emerged, a group whose purpose was to bring down absolutism and to show the people that they should have a voice in government. And with this new group of people, a whole new group of ideas emerged. Philosophy's reflecting political, social, and economic issues were brought up and the official Glorious Revolution began.
Another marvel that emerged in the enlightenment period was a man by the name of Jean-Jaques Rousseau. He was a philosopher that believed that man would better society if he concentrated more on emotion than intellect. He also believed that it is unfair to give men power due to their high social class and not give men power if they are poor. Rousseau's most famous document, Social Contract,
