I remember that fateful day in September day as if it were yesterday. It was just a regular day for me and for those going to school and work. I was in homeroom and I was already exhausted, counting the seconds, hoping for the day to end. All of a sudden, Mr. Coleman the Principal screamed in a grating tone that something horrible had happened, but no one paid attention to him as they carried on with their normal conversations. I wouldn't find out what had happened until I entered my third period class, US Government.My US Government teacher, Ms. Brick, looked nervous and very uncomfortable. Then she announced something that made the moment a nightmare. I was in shock. How could The World Trade Centers just simply vanish? Everyone was running and trying to get in contact and get home to their loved ones, checking to see whether or not they were safe. In a few days, it will be the one year anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th. I know that day will never escape my memory. Although security has become tighter, there are still many loopholes in protection in places such as airports. Osama Bin Laden is still out there, still preaching hate towards America. If you pass where the World Trade Center used to be, all you will hear is construction instead of the bustling crowds that used to flourish as they went to do business. If we come away with anything positive from these terrorist actions, it's that we should appreciate what we have been given to its fullest, because you never know when your last day will arrive. We need to appreciate the people we love because we may not have them by our side always.
