Gun Control: To Own or Not To Own
Why do those who describe us gun toting, bible thumping, heterosexual, pro-life, republicans as "pro-gun" and insist that advocacy of gun controls include describing gun owners as "demented and blood-thirsty psychopaths whose concept of fun is to rain death upon innocent creatures both human and otherwise"? While this may partially reflect mere cultural "hey... let's make fun of the pro-gun activists!" It also reflects on people's need to find the whipping child for few and far-between accidents. "Oh, Little Johnny shot his big brother Gilbert in the face... let's blame it on the parents who owned the gun in the first place." (Well that one is a toughie, but it happens ALL the time. Little Johnny should be extremely chastised and punished, and mom and dad need to do better things with their firearms... THEY ARE NOT TOYS.)Gun control: to bear arms, or not to bear arms, that is the true question. The controversy over the right to posses guns has only heightened since the September 11 attacks, and the country is pretty much divided. Anti-gun activists such as Rosie O'Donnell (and avid democrat, mind you) is blatantly proclaiming that owning guns is bad, and no one should do it. What is that woman's problem? Wait a second... don't
With all the commotion in the air with 9/11, we have taken the next step in protection of all citizens (yes, even the dirty democrats). We now have armed air-marshals on most all airplane flights. So we can do what Miss O'Donnell wants, and get rid of all the guns and let her fly on a flight to New York City. I don't really think she'd do it without the comfort of knowing someone is there to protect her (WITH A GUN!!). I do not by any means advocate the use of guns for anything other than self-defense and/or sport and show. Someone who wants revenge for anything should choose bamboo chutes and not a golden gun (a lot like the one used in the James Bond flicks.) Movies don't necessarily put bad ideas in our heads either (contrary to popular belief) It all depends on the viewer. For example: little Shaquana wants to see her favorite rapper (Rap Master K) in his new gang movie... She sees him "bust a cap" in a rival gang members body and that's "cool." Ummm, no? Just because we hear things and see things doesn't mean we're going to rush up to Santa Claus and ask him for a .38 Special. Yes, we are teenagers, but we aren't as easily swayed as you grown-ups think we are. The probability of serious injury from an attack is 2.5 times greater for women offering no resistance than for women resisting with a gun. Men also benefit from using a gun, but the benefits are smaller: offering no resistance is 1.4 times more likely to result in serious injury than resisting with a gun. 27% of women keep a gun in the house. 37.6 million women either own or have rapid access to guns.
