Karl Marx

Cuba, China, North Korea … what do these countries have in common? Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to pay for a doctor’s appointment, going to the dentist, or even an education like these countries? How is this possible? All these countries practice Marxism, or in other terms, Communism. Karl Marx was the starter of this practice of government. The question is, should there be a holiday dedicated for him?

Karl Marx was born in 1818 and lived in Prussia, current day Germany. Marx was born into a Jewish family, but converted to Lutheranism shortly after his birth (Kemerling 1). With his father being a lawyer, he had a lot of opportunities. Karl studied law in 1835 taking after his father at the University of Bonn. After a short time, he transferred to the University of Berlin to focus on philosophy (World Book 236). After trying to get several jobs in the philosophy field, he noticed he was unsuccessful due to the fact he criticized religion. This made Marx turn to journalism (Kuhn 1). With this new job of working for the Rheinische Zeitung, a local newspaper, he criticized the Prussian government (World Book 236).
