A detailed Summary of Does Age Really Matter


"Prohibition makes you want to cry in your beer, and denies you the beer to cry into." This quote by Don Marquis conveys how a large majority of teenagers, as well as people of legal drinking age, feel about the laws prohibiting alcohol to people under twenty-one. These people want the legal drinking age lowered from twenty-one to eighteen. They feel like, if a person is old enough to vote and fight for their country, then they should be able to have an alcoholic beverage if they choose. Opposers to this ideal think that the law should stay as it is because they feel that people under twenty-one are not mature enough to drink responsibly. I have taken the side of the opposers.

The legal drinking age should not be anything but twenty-one and older. Seventy percent of all teenagers drink alcohol [First Eagle], which they have no business doing. They don't know how to drink responsibly and they don't know why it is people drink. They drink in order to get buzzed or drunk, instead of drinking for the flavor of the alcohol. A drin


Underage drinkers also tend to become rowdy and even violent. I could give several examples of how underage drinking has led to violence. One that I will share is what happened to my twenty year old brother (then nineteen) and a few of his friends. They were all at a bar drinking and got into an argument with a bunch of guys. They took it outside and a huge brawl started because of the bullcrap being said. All of my brothers' friends and my brother were pretty banged up. My brother was so bad he was taken to the hospital. He sustained many injuries to his head and face. All that could have been avoided by not drinking alcohol.
