Freedom persists even in the most perfect world filled with only equality; however, with having a hierarchy freedom is taken away along with rights leaving you with limited freedom. This leaves us with the question what is freedom? Even someone in prison for life still have some freedom. Don’t they have freedom to live? Most of their civil rights are taken away, yes, but they are still freedom to be a human being and living. We will look at five different stories and try to answer these questions and I will prove to you many examples of people having only limited freedom. Anthem is written as the diary of a man Equality 7-2521, a young man living in the future in which people have lost all knowledge of individualism, to the point of not even knowing words like “mine” or “I”. Everyone lives and works together in collective groups, with all aspects of life dictated by councils. When he is assigned to a menial job cleaning the streets, he rebels against collectivism by conducting secret scientific research, which eventually leads him to re-create electric light. When he presents his discovery to the Council of Scholars, they condemn him for daring to act as an individual and threaten to destroy his creation. He flees into the Unch
