The day That Changed My Life

March 5, 1998 seemed just like any other morning in my household. People banging on doors, shouting " can you hurry up in there please?" People asking one another, "are you riding with me or her this morning?" It seemed just like any other day until my brother told me something that would change my life forever.

That morning my mom was running around chanting the words "hurry up, hurry up", just as if she were a broken record. Shannon, my sister, was wandering around the house brushing her teeth, as if we never owned a bathroom sink. Then there's Ron, my brother. He was acting as if he just lost his dog. He was moping around the house, which was very unusual. He would generally be the one to run around the house and make a ton of noise, as if he were at some lame rap concert. But this morning was different; he had this look in his eye, a look as if something was disturbing him.

As I began to make my way to the door, Ron asked me if I had a second to talk. Of course I said "sure, why not". As I made my way to the kitchen, where Ron was sitting, I started to feel a sense of anxiety come over me. My stomach started to turn and my hands began to sweat over the anticipation of what he was

I told him that no-matter what; I will always love him with all of my heart. Ron dropped his head, and then looked up again, this time looking away from my face, as if he were ashamed. Ron told me in a shaky voice that he was HIV positive. I began to shake uncontrollable, just as if I was having a seizure.

I agreed not to say anything, then after a moment of just sitting there starring at one another, like a fifth-grade stare down contest, he got up, kissed my forehead, and slowly walked out the front door.
