When my parents divorced I was only five years old. For the next four years my time was split evenly between my two homes. In 1995 my mother moved to Bayville and my sister and I came with her. During the next two years my mother made sure I saw my father every weekend. We would take trips up to the rest stop on the parkway where we would meet my father. We would spend the weekend on Staten Island. Things felt normal because we were used to it by now. We were the typical family of the 90's.

In October of 1996 my father came down to Bayville to pick us up. He and my mother had always tried to keep the rules of the houses the same, but we were growing up and testing the limits. On this particular Saturday my father arrived while my sister and I were fighting and he did not like what he saw. My mother tried to hold a family meeting but my father was a little intoxicated and became very angry. My sister tried t

o lighten things up a bit with a joke, but this only made him angrier. He broke the screen door by trying to drag her out of the house where he was going to " show her just how you treat a grown up by kicking the shit out of her."

In April of 2001 my sister had gotten into a fight with my mother and decided she wanted to call my father to see if he could help out in anyway, which would have been pretty hard considering he lived about 200 miles away. So instead I started talking with him and from there it sprouted to a visit to Staten Island to see him. After a couple of visits he invited me out to the Hamptons to meet his girlfriend Kathy. That weekend went well. We caught up on old things and finally I got a long awaited and deserving apology. After a while thing got so normal, it wasn't like being around a stranger. He was my father.

With me screaming from the door for him to stop my mother made him release my sister. With that my father came into the house gave my mother the child support check and said "I don't need these shits in my life. I'm out of here." My sister and I were extremely upset and we called our father's parents for some support, but were denied for the fact that they did not believe us.
