The Sun Also Rises
The Sun Also Rises, by Ernest Hemingway, is an impressive document of the people who became known as the “Lost Generation.” This young generation having lost their dreams and innocence from the aftermath of World War I, emerged from the war bitter and aimless, and spent much of the 1920’s drinking and partying away their frustrations. A main conflict in this story is represented through the main character, Jake Barnes, and his long time friend and once lover, Lady Brett Ashley. Though both characters share feelings of love and compassion for one another, they cannot forego them due to an accident Jake suffered in the war leaving him sexless.
