Competition

Competition is a form of social interaction. According to Tischler, competition is a form of conflict in which individuals or groups confine their conflict within agreed upon rules. Competition is a common form of interaction in the modern world, in sports, the marketplace, education system and the political system. Throughout the paper I will be mentioning different opinions about competition and how it works in different aspects.

In sports competition is very healthy and desirable in many aspects such as sports, the economy, games and child development. When a children starts to grow and interact with other children they star experiencing competition. Parents should not protect their children from competition. The child can learn some valuable lessons from healthy competition that will serve him well as he gets older (Fawley, p.1). Children can also learn a lot from competition such as how to play by the rules. According to Sara Wilford, the director of the Early Childhood Center and Art of Teaching graduate program at Sara Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y children are just starting to understand that rules are the basis of any game (Fawley, p.1). When everyone makes up his or her own rules, no one can

play together, and the game isn't enjoyable. The earlier the child learns this lesson, the more fun he/she'll have playing with other children, as he grows older. Anything in life to an extreme is bad and so is the case with competition. Although it can be valuable learning opportunities, competitive situations can easily get out of control (Fawley, p.3). A good example that competition is getting out of control is when the child thinks winning is more important than playing the game. In sports competition is also very healthy and may also get out of control. Being competitive motivated children and adults to perform better in sports and to do the best they can be at that sport. However, when competition gets out of hand, you can notice conflict in the team, cheating, negativity and fights. Social Competition and its Role in Social Development and World Peace" was the title of a Professors World Peace Academy (PWPA) conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, November 24-25, 2001. Professor Lozan G. Stoimenov, a soccer (football) enthusiast who has drafted a book manuscript titled "Foundations of a General Theory of Competition and Socio-Economic Development," began the discussion noting that competition stimulates people to be creative, resourceful and ambitious; this is true whether we are looking at sports or a nation's economy. (No author, 2001). By being competitive in the economy it allows the companies to compete for customers and the sales of their products. As the mayor companies compete it grants the consumer better prices and qualit
