In Anniston, Alabama two small neighborhoods known as Sweet Valley and Cobb Town have become ghost towns after years of contamination of PCB by the local Monsanto plant. PCB, short for polychlorinated biphenyl’s, are tox-ins that are known to cause cancer in humans. In 1966, the Monsanto company hired a private scientist to undergo tests in the local waterways of Anniston. Af-ter releasing bluegill into the water, fish violently reacted to the toxins as blood gushed from their gills. Monsanto terminated their use of PCB toxins five years later.
