The antagonists are Romeo and Juliet’s families. The families have been feuding for years. Members of the families fight whenever they see each other. Many family members have been killed in the fights. The problem is that Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight, at a masquerade party given by Juliet’s father. Romeo had slipped into this party wearing a mask, actually hoping to get a glimpse of Rosaline, a girl he thought he was in love with.
