Quest for Individuality
A detailed Summary of Quest for Individuality
As the first signs of winter approach, birds gather in flocks to achieve their ultimate goal of flying down south for winter. Like these birds, mankind is propelled to encompass himself within the boundaries of a group or society that he could relate to. These boundaries, in physical reality, shape into many forms, some of them being religion, culture, race, ethnicity, gender, and class status. Mankind therefor limits him self to the ideologies and fundamental beliefs presented to him within these boundaries. Societies can range from being moral and just to being oppressive and totalitarian. No matter what society you live in, one thing is for sure society suppresses the exercise of individualism. An individual is the independent and sovereign thinker. He does not live for others and doesn't subject himself to conformity and ideologies set forth by the society for him to follow. A man defied by him self, is a man who is able to justify his own existence and destruction. An individual is individualized by his willingness to explore beyond every boundary and then to choose to follow what he feels is right and justified. An individual wants to be in charge of his own life and destiny and not anyone else's

. He derives his right from nature and the rational world and seeks self-assertion.
society's values and beliefs take charge over his personal values is a person who is doomed to fail and self -destruct. To say that I am a reflection of my society would be to interpret that I am a pawn of society. If I were to hold each and every of my society's values, I would basically have no individuality. Every man should be self-reliant. If a person views oneself as the disposition society can't touch them. Society has to some extent played a part in shaping my individuality. My exposure to different types of society has led me to adopt individuality. Some of values derive from within and some I have adopted from society. There is no value that I hold which is not of my personal choice. Everything I believe is of my own choosing. I have to live in a society no matter what and I have accepted this fact. That doesn't mean that I made a contract with society, in which in order to live in the society, the society is has to have a say in my life. An individual has sole authority over his self. Individuals blossom under a society, which gives them their rights. Such society is not a threat to individualism, nor is individualism a threat to such society. It is necessary for a society and individuals to exist. Whether you think that individuals make up society or society shapes the individual-neither can exist without the other. If you "choose" to follow some of society's values you are expressing your individualism just by "choosing".
Individualism exists in some shape or form in almost everybody's life. Some tend to refer to their identity as the main aspect of their individuality while others tend to express their individuality through their ideologies or beliefs. I became aware of my individuality
