Stress management is the key to overcoming stress. There are a few rules that you can follow in order to deal with stress. First, become aware of your stressors and your reactions to these stressors. Don't ignore your stress admit to it and find out how your body responds to different kinds of stress. Second, recognize what you can change. Maybe you can reduce the intensity of a stressor by managing it over a period of time or reduce your exposure to a stressor by taking a break. Next, try to reduce the emotional intensity of your emotional reactions to stress. Try to tame your emotions by not pondering on the negative aspects and the "what if's" of a stressor. After you reduce your emotional reactions, try to calm your physical reaction to stress. Taking a slow, deep breath can bring your heart rate and respiration back to normal. Next to last it is good to build your physical reserves. You can do this by eating right, exercising, avoiding stimulants, and getting plenty of rest. Last, you need to maintain your emotional reserves. Do this by developing friendships, pursuing realistic goals, and expect frustration or failure.
