RM Issues

A detailed Summary of RM Issues

During these past few weeks as an RM there hasn't been that many issues that I have dealt with myself in the hall or even on my floor. Two "issues" that's did come up were the propping of the door and beer cans that were left outside the recycling room. I dealt with both situations in different ways.

I was in one of my resident's room talking to them and attempting to help them with their computer problems. I walked out of their room because I heard talking at the end of the hallway by the loading dock door. So I walked over to where I was hearing the noise. I saw one female resident on her cell phone with the door not just propped but wide open. The door was being held open with a wood crate. I told her that she wasn't allowed to have this door propped open. If she wanted to talk on her cell phone she could walk up to the front of the building and talk there. At first she had just said that she would only be a few minutes. I told her it doesn't matter hoe long you are going to be on the phone for. It's against col

When I first thought back to the situation I couldn't help to think that "why would anyone put beer cans in front of the recycling room, and leave them there?" I still don't know of an answer to this. I thought holding this mini floor meeting with my residents just made them more aware of what can and does go on in a resident hall and what to be aware of. Referring them to the handbook was also a good safety net because the book doesn't just have the situation in there but it also says what can possibly happen if caught breaking college policies.

I felt that reminding the resident of the policy was a helpful way in making her understand why what she was doing was wrong, rather than just telling her wasn't allowed to and leaving it at that. I felt that she coop
