"A plane has just struck the north tower of World Trade Center" probably were the first words people heard as they tuned in to the live coverage of attacks on America. The day was 11th of the September 2001 when attacks on America left people thinking whether the world was ending. As this event took place National Center for Victims of Crime mobilized its resources to respond to the needs of the victims of the attacks by aiding traumatized or anyone affected by this tragedy. Also the National Center helped local victim service agencies and individual victims by providing them with updated information and additional help. National Center divided their efforts into educating public, helping local victim service organizations, and providing services to individual victims.
Not only National Center educated people and helped local victim service providers but also provided services to individual victims. Post September 11th, communication between National Center and victims doubled. Helpline calls, emails, and hits to their web site increased dramatically. Everyday agents of National Center communicated with victims all over the country who were displaced, grieving, or seeking information about emergency financial assistance. They talked to people all over the United States who needed help locating their loved ones lost during the attacks. Their services to individual victims ranged from providing supportive counseling, practical assistance, and information about what they are experiencing, to referrals to local social service organizatio
