Being an American
Being an American can mean many different things to many different people. To some it might mean that they have to be a patriot or be able to shoe their individualism. To others it may just mean to be loyal to your country. Over the year we have studied many different ideas that go along with what it means to be an American. The most important issues that we have covered are patriotism, heroism, individualism, loyalty, sacrifice, and courage. I believe that being an American means to be loyal to your country and to sacrifice certain things to make life better for others, and to be an individual and not be afraid to protest against things that don’t seem fair. In Vietnam young Americans sacrificed for their country while others protested against things that they didn’t think were right. During the civil right movement blacks protested to get respect and rights just to fell like normal people. During the great depression many people were hit hard by the crash and spoke out against the government but they still had faith in their country.
