In ancient China, getting a tattoo was a very unusual and harsh punishment for crimes committed. In some tribes on the borderland of ancient China, tattooing however was regarded as a symbol of dominance and religion. In Japan and Taiwan, where I grew up, people who are in the gangs usually love to get different tattoo figures. This way, they could show their power and influence. As a result, tattooing was given a criminal, savage and negative image in Chinese history. Even at this moment, the twenty first century, there are still so many Chinese, especially the generations of my parents and grandparents, who think getting a tattoo is a bad movement.

In Spain, there is a festival for tattoos, and it attracts thousands of people to attend this magnificent party. In the 50's, there were numerous soldiers got tattoos in Taiwan; especially those troops who were captured in Korean War. These solders got tattoos to show their loyalties to the government. In recent years, more and more people love to have tattoos on their body. They use different figures of tattoos to show their personalities, styles, and religions. Some people have tigers or lions to signify valiancy. Others like to get Chinese dragon to represent nobleness. And some people use words or people's names directly show who they are or how they feel. Many celebrities, such as Madonna and Sean Connery, they also have tattoos. Even New York Government sponsored an exposition of tattoos. Every generation likes to use different objects to symbolize its characteristic. My generation just so happens to love using tattoos to show ours. Even though, we like something that you don't, but that doesn't mean we are bad, degenerate or delinquent. People can't judge people by what things they like or how they look. The most important thing is who we are!
