A detailed Summary of Vincent Van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh was born March 30th, 1853, in Groot Zundert, in the north Brabant region of the Netherlands. He lived there until he was 16 years old.
When Vincent was 20 he was promoted to Goupil's London branch and moved to England. He started to work at a schoolhouse when he was 25 years old. He really didn't like that job because he didn't receive enough money, so he returned to Holland on December 1786 to work in a bookstore.
In 1878 he moved to Borinage where he began to work as a lay preacher. Soon after he became a preacher, he started to draw in earnest. In 1881 he moved in with his parents in Etten. He grew up in the country side. That is why some say he drew hills regularly in some drawings. Later in 1881 he moved to the Hague where he took painting lessons from a famous painter named Anton Mauve, the cousin of Van Gogh's father.

In the early months of 1885 Van Gogh continued his series of portraits of peasants. Vincent viewed these as "studies", works which would continue to refine his craft in preparation for his most ambitious work to date. Vincent laboured throughout March and April on these studies, briefly distracted from his work by the death of his father on 26 March. Vincent and his father had maintained a severely strained relationship over the last few years and, while certainly not happy about his father's death, Vincent was quite emotionally detached and continued his work.
